Aaron Tennant Talks with Obama and LaHood
Aug. 17, 2011 (Quad Cities) “Aaron Tennant, President of Tennant Truck Lines, Inc., met with Preslocationchange.htmident Barak Obama yesterday in Peosta, Iowa at a Rural Economic Forum.
It was a great chance to speak with President Obama and Secretary LaHood about the concerns of our sector, explains Aaron Tennant. The legislative concerns as well as the job opportunities that exist in this growth industry to keep our economy vibrant.
I didnt expect Secretary LaHood to be there but it was an incredible opportunity to discuss with him the topics that are hot in our business”especially the unique situation here at Tennant Truck Lines “ we have jobs available! Great paying jobs. Our entry level drivers can earn $55,000 in the first year and senior drivers are making over $80,000 per year.
As this older generation retires and the need for more trucks increases, it is important we take a look at dropping the age down to 18 for a commercial drivers license as well as allocate money to train drivers. If we want to drop some of the entitlement spending in our government budgets, weve got to get the people working”and truck lines needs the employees. I made that point to LaHood during our forum, stated Tennant, the recent past president of The Machinery Haulers Association.
We are working with both Black Hawk and Scott Community College to make sure they have the programs needed to increase the flow of capable, well-trained drivers. At Tennant, this is one of our priorities, not only because our company requires them but also a lot of other employers in the QCA, the State, and the Nation demands them to keep product moving about the country and the world, sums up Tennant
